John Deere 48-in. Edge Cutting System

The Edge Cutting System has been trademarked to emphasize the advantages of the John Deere mower deck designs. They give superior convenience, performance, and reliability:
 
 Deep-deck mower design lifts grass for a clean, even cut.

Smooth underside of mower prevents grass buildup and evenly disperses grass clippings. 

The rolled outer edge of the deck provides extra strength and protection.

Dual-stage E-coat and powder paint coatings provide extra protection from rust.
 
The 48-in. mower deck is a three-spindle design with heavy-duty characteristics:
  • Four mower wheels are standard equipment for a smooth mowing job, even in rolling terrain.
  • Flexible discharge chute minimizes property and mower deck damage. 
  • No tools are required to go from mulching (with mulch cover) to side discharge to rear bagging. 
  • Mulch cover is an optional attachment. 
  • A high-performance mulching blade (GX21786) is available to enhance mulching performance. 
  • The mower deck has a rolled lip to provide greater strength and protection. The rugged 12-gauge (0.105-in., 2.7-mm) steel mower will provide years of dependable mowing.
  • The blade-to-spindle design provides a unique mounting system for the mower blade that gives extra safety and convenience.
  • A cut-and-throw 6-1/2 bushel rear bagger is sold separately.
  • A wash port is provided to make cleaning the underside of the mower deck easy:
  • A hose connector is included with mower deck.
  • The StarLock blade design keeps the blade bolt at the correct torque for easy removal.
  • Optional blades for difficult mulching or bagging conditions are available.

Better Than The Original Deck
Deck attached no problem to my D140. Works great, now problems at all. Mows just like when the entire package was brand new. I would highly recommend this purchase if you have to replace your deck.

Installed on customers John Deere D140. Mower deck came with all necessary hardware and deck belt. Removal of old deck and installation of new was fairly easy. Work perfectly with no adjustment needed to level deck. Solid deck. !

Great mower deck
A direct swap out of my used mower deck for my L120. Everything is included for a plug and play. Took an hour to remove old deck and install this one. A big upgrade over old mower deck. Included new deck hangars and the garden hose attachment. Looks like a new mower.

Just right
Fast delivery, extremely well packed. Easy to install. My E160 is like new again! Instructions are silly, there is a booklet full of safety stickers in different languages with details on where to place them for each different country but that can go right into the trash. Fortunately, dropping and swapping decks on Deere lawn tractors is a snap. If only there was some magic way to get the belt quickly back on, that always involves a bit of wrestling for me.
