Poorly Designed
Not a fault of Green Parts Store at all, but the functionality of this mower was a very poor design on John Deere's part. I replaced this spring a couple of years ago and it broke again within a couple of weeks. I was told then by folks at my local JD dealership that they see this part breaking a lot. Their claim is that there is just so much vibration with this mower that this spring continually breaking will just be normal. Rather than get a new spring back then I chose to use heavy gauge wire to repair the broken spring. It held fine for 2 years. While ordering other parts this spring I thought I would add one of these to the cart and try it again. The spring broke lasted one mowing and broke on the second try. Now I am back to "repaired" spring. My advice is to save your money and just use heavy gauge wire to make the hook on the end of your broken spring. It will last much longer than buying a new one. One would think that JD would fix this obvious design flaw since it appears to be a known issue. I have yet to see other zero turn mowers have this problem.
